masterful hand engraving: the renaissance of relief engraving in artful silver spoons
Welcome to the world of intricate hand engraving – an art that demands time, dedication, and a deep understanding of traditional craftsmanship. Each of our spoons is a unique masterpiece, carefully engraved by hand using various chisels and needles. This exceptional technique, known as relief engraving, imparts a sublime and sculptural structure to each piece, reviving the craftsmanship of bygone eras.
Relief engraving, in its elaborate design, pays homage to the splendor of past centuries. Particularly in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, this form of engraving was fashionable not only in jewelry but also in weapons – a tradition that persists in the USA to this day.
The art of hand engraving, once affordable through manual labor, has become rare today, as the costs of materials have risen, and craftsmanship experienced its heyday.
Each spoon in our collection is a handmade masterpiece of 925 sterling silver, weighing approximately 74.5 grams and measuring 30 cm in length. The spoon consists of a straw with two soldered parts, one of which contains an intricately set stone. The detachable spoon part is equipped with a bayonet clasp, providing not only functionality but also elegance. These unique pieces are the result of 8 to 10 days of intensive hand engraving – a tribute to the mastery of bygone times, palpable in every detail.
"As a goldsmith trained at the State Drawing Academy Hanau and with additional training as a stone setter, engraving is more than just a hobby for me – it is a passion that reflects my love for ancient craftsmanship. I aspire to preserve and pass on these traditional techniques by creating elaborate pieces that combine various goldsmithing techniques."
